Castella-making Workshop

Castella, a Legacy of Nagasaki’s History during National Isolation

During the national isolation imposed by the Edo Shogunate government, the only port in Japan open to foreign countries was Dejima, where the latest culture and international exchanges flourished. Castella, a Western dessert said to originate in the Kingdom of Castile, was passed down to generations of master bakers of Nagasaki Castella for over 400 years and became a synonym for Nagasaki. Take this opportunity to learn how to make authentic Nagasaki Castella with skilled bakers at our handmade Castella shop. Enjoy a memorable and fulfilling moment in Nagasaki. Our warmest welcome awaits you.
